CTS PhD Student Katie Giordano Receives Prestigious NIH F31 Research Award

Katie Giordano, a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Translational Sciences, has received a prestigious F31 award from the National Institutes of Health to support her dissertation research examining the role of rod microglia in traumatic brain injury.  Ms. Giordano received the highly competitive award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a part of the NIH, in Spring 2020.  Working under the mentorship of Dr. Jonathan Lifshitz, the director of the Translational Neurotrauma Research Program at the College of Medicine-Phoenix, Ms. Giordano is examining the potential for using rod microglia for diagnosis and prognosis in TBI and other neurological conditions, as well as for development of possible interventional treatments.
