Steve Machtley is a technology leader with over 20 years of experience designing and delivering IT services and solutions in support of health education, research, and healthcare innovation at the University of Arizona. In his role with the College of Health Sciences, Steve is responsible for designing the overall technology ecosystem and coordinating IT services in support of the college.

Prior to joining the college, Steve served for eight years as the Assistant Dean for Learning and Healthcare Technology Innovations with the College of Nursing. In that position, he oversaw IT infrastructure and support services, web and application development, instructional design, and project/portfolio management. Steve previously served in an IT leadership role as the Director of Infrastructure Services and Customer Care with the College of Medicine — Tucson. Before that he held numerous positions over an 11 year period with the Department of Family and Community Medicine, starting as a student computing assistant and culminating in the role of Assistant Department Administrator for Information Technology and Operations.

Steve has been the recipient of numerous awards supporting innovation in teaching and learning. He co-founded the Complex Adaptive Competency Lab, a multi-unit collaboration evaluating extended reality (XR) and artificial intelligence to prepare next generation nurses. His team later received an additional award to build XR studios for student learning at both College of Nursing campuses.
 
Steve is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he studied business administration with an emphasis in entrepreneurship.
