José Luis Muñoz Jr., EdD
As the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Senior Professional at the UArizona College of Nursing, José Luis Muñoz Jr., EdD works closely with faculty, staff and leadership in shaping and leading change around equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Dr. Muñoz brings passion, skills and visionary leadership to advance the college's efforts in creating and sustaining a culture that embraces and promotes EDI in its broadest meanings. He also provides assistance, advice, coaching and consultation on EDI to individuals and groups. In addition, Dr. Muñoz supports the grant programs Indians in Nursing: Career Advancement & Transitions Scholars (INCATS) and Arizona Nursing Career Apex Transitions (ANCAT). In this role, Dr. Muñoz coordinates with other grant leaders to support EDI programs, projects, events and activities to ensure alignment with the College of Nursing’s strategic goals and mission.
Dr. Muñoz earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Arizona, a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas, and a life and wellness coach certification. He currently serves on the board of directors at the CITY Center for Collaborative Learning and Southeast Arizona Health Education Center (SEAHEC). He was appointed by Mayor Regina Romero to serve on the 2018 Parks + Connections Bond Oversight Commission in the City of Tucson. He has completed fellowships with the AACN Diversity Leadership; NCAA Effective Facilitation; University of Kansas Social Justice Retreat; University of Michigan – Leading for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Certificate; and the United States Olympic Committee. He loves spending time with his wife, Alex Biddle, and doggies, Bert and Ellie. He grew up in Rio Rico, Arizona and dedicated much of his time to his sport, long-distance running. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors and traveling.
