Gustavo de Oliveira Almeida, PhD is the Research Laboratory Manager at the University of Arizona Sensor Lab Healthcare Innovation Lab, as well as a Data Science Fellow. He holds bachelor’s degrees in business (2006) and Computer Information Systems (2018), a master’s degree in administration (2009) and PhDs in Business Administration (2013) and Informatics - Computer Science (2022). He holds a permanent professorship appointment at the Graduate Program in Business Administration, Federal Fluminense University – Brazil.

His post-doctoral experience includes terms as a Visiting Scholar at New York University (2018), a Postdoctoral Associate at the School of Information – University of Arizona (2019) and a postdoctoral Data Science Fellowship with the Data Science Institute (UArizona, 2020). Dr. Almeida was a team member in large-scale multidisciplinary National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded projects, including NSF# 1626098 – MRI: "Development of Experiential Supercomputing: Developing a Transdisciplinary Research and Innovation Holodeck." He also participated in projects that advance the usage of robots and sensors in underserved communities.

Dr. Almeida has participated in various Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) at the University of Arizona, including UA Holodeck: Health, Wellbeing, and Design Thinking (UArizona’s inaugural VIP course, led by Win Burleson, PhD), AI for Medical Interviewing (Win Burleson, PhD and Allan Hamilton, MD) and StellarScape (Kay He, DMA). He is keenly interested in studying multidisciplinary group collaboration dynamics with wearable sensors and bridging health and data science applications, specializing in multimodal physiological data streams.
