Melanie Clawson is originally from the St. Louis, Missouri area. She graduated from Southern
Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) with her B.S. in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in
Genetic and Cellular Biology. While attending SIUE, Melanie performed research in a
biochemistry lab pursuing the overexpression and purification of pseudouridine glycosidase in
E. coli. Additionally, Melanie performed recombinant DNA experiments on the model
organism C. elegans. Since graduating, Melanie worked as a social worker with Compass Health
Network in the Adult Community Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center (CPRC) where she
counseled, supported, and aided in the recovery journey of her clients. Melanie has wanted to
pursue genetic counseling since high school, and she is very grateful for the opportunity to do so
at the University of Arizona. In her spare time, Melanie enjoys rock climbing, hiking, reading,
and spending time with family and friends.
