Steve Goldschmid, MD
Dr. Goldschmid is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has practiced in Tucson since September 2000. He spent many years at Emory University School of Medicine as director of clinical services. Dr. Goldschmid received his medical degree at Wayne State University. He completed his residency in gastroenterology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. In 2000, Dr. Goldschmid was recruited to establish a state-of-the-art gastroenterology service and endoscopy lab at the University of Arizona Health Sciences, based at the University of Arizona Health Network, which is now Banner – University Medical Center Tucson. Dr. Goldschmid went on to become the chairman of medicine in 2006. He served as dean of the College of Medicine – Tucson from 2008 to 2014. He was also co-CEO of the University of Arizona Health Network from 2012 to 2013. He briefly retired from the university, only to return in late 2021 as the associate vice president for the Global MD Program, where he oversees all aspects of the academic mission associated with the program. Dr. Goldschmid will be serving the College of Health Sciences as an executive dean for strategy and international affairs. His role with the Global MD Program will continue as he builds the program.
