Health Sciences Design About

Health Sciences Design is an interdisciplinary program that brings innovative, human-centered thinking to the task of improving human health. The program engages undergraduate, graduate and professional students in applied design and creative inquiry to address complex challenges in individual, community and global health.
With an emphasis on hands-on learning, Health Sciences Design provides students with the knowledge, technology and collaborative culture to explore the intersection of health and design, applying their knowledge in either individual or group projects. Within that learning environment, students are encouraged to integrate both the technical and human side of design, applying specialized knowledge from the health sciences and other disciplines, as well as perspectives from the end users of design — the health seekers, caregivers and other stakeholders whose lived experiences can inform and enrich solutions in areas such as medical technology, clinical practices, prevention strategies and health communication.
Along with core curriculum in design and creative inquiry, Health Sciences Design offers courses that allow students to explore how community-based practices, interprofessional collaboration and emerging technology can introduce new opportunities to sustain and enhance health and wellness.
Established in 2019, Health Sciences Design focuses on next-generation education that complements diverse academic paths and builds versatile competencies — and prepares students to create and lead the future of health.
