The Physician Assistant Profession

The physician assistant profession is one of the most rewarding and dynamic careers in healthcare. According to the American Academy of Physician Associates, PAs are licensed clinicians who practice medicine in every specialty and setting. They are trusted, rigorously educated, and trained healthcare professionals dedicated to expanding access to care and transforming health and wellness through person-centered, team-based medical practice.

With more than 178,700 PAs practicing in the United States, the profession is expanding rapidly, with a projected growth rate of 26.5% from 2022 to 2032. PAs engage in over 500 million patient interactions each year, making significant contributions to improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery. The versatility of the PA role allows for a broad scope of practice, including conducting patient interviews, performing physical exams, diagnosing, and treating illnesses, and prescribing medications.
