The Health Sciences Design for Health Innovation Graduate Certificate program is empowering a mother to create a more user-friendly communication device for her son.

As part of the Health Sciences Design course MILAGRO Collaborative, faculty and students provide much-needed services to migrants in Tucson.

Before the MILAGRO Collaborative became a course helping students gain experience working at the border, UArizona faculty stood up to help the less fortunate.

The New Frontiers of Sound Science and Technology Center will focus on topological acoustics, an emerging field in which researchers exploit the properties of sound in ways that could vastly improve computing, telecommunications and sensing.

The College of Engineering’s new makerspace has gained a dedicated professional who is working to develop the fabrication capabilities of both the Engineering Design Center and the students. Matthew Briggs, a new assistant professor of practice and design fellow for the college, is developing courses on equipment safety and instruction, as well as holistic approaches to the makerspace role on campus.

The University of Arizona Health Sciences and the College of Engineering are pleased to welcome Matthew Briggs, MFA, who will serve as a professor of practice at Health Sciences Design and the Craig M. Berge Engineering Design Program. Briggs joins the two programs as an instructor in digital design and makerspace technology.

Kasi Kiehlbaugh, PhD, is the director and an assistant teaching professor of the University of Arizona Health Sciences Design Program. Her passion is design thinking and helping students develop new tools and mindsets that can magnify change.

Imagine a bioactive dressing to help diabetic wounds heal faster, or a wearable device to catch septic shock before severe symptoms emerge, or a new therapeutic that prevents addiction in patients managing chronic pain with opioids. 

A diving science and technology exercise held earlier this month some 2,580 miles away successfully demonstrated a concept born in Rhode Island about five years ago.

Proposals from more than 10 academic units were among the recipients of the 2023 Catalyst Seed Grants from Vertically Integrated Projects. The focus of the grants was the creation of new undergraduate research opportunities that are embedded in faculty- or staff-led projects.
