Health Sciences Design Graduate Certificate
The Design for Health Innovation Graduate Certificate equips students and working professionals with essential skills in applied design and innovation for the health sector. Offered through the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, in partnership with Health Sciences Design, this flexible nine-unit program can stand alone or complement other graduate studies, offering elective choices to focus on specific design challenges and solutions. Using a project-based approach, this experiential learning graduate certificate enables students to hone their interdisciplinary design and problem-solving skills using open-ended, student-identified topics in health, leading to the development of sustainable, equitable and transformative solutions in areas such as patient experience and service design, medical device development, community health interventions, health communications and education, and health policy and systems design.
Certificate Requirements
Core Courses
Complete six units.
HSD 501: Design for Health Workshop: Addressing Human Health Challenges with Design Thinking (3 units)
HSD 598: Health Sciences Design Studio (3 units)
Elective Courses
Complete three or more units.
HSD 510: Device Design in the Health Sciences: Developing Tools for Health Care Solutions Using Design Thinking (3 units)
HSD 515: Design Visualization Practices for Health: From Speculations to Resolutions (3 units)
HSD 520: Healthy Design Practices: From the Makerspace to the Community
